Written Report of Presentation - Improved

                        - Highlighted red means improvements that have been made

In this unit I am creating a short film to spread awareness of domestic violence. The title of the production is ‘It won't happen again’.

The hypothesis to my production is, 'In life I believe that women have every right that a man has and so that means no man should have to over power a women by using domestic violence. This film will show this in action by exploring domestic violence at home where one is meant to be safe and comfortable'. I felt like me making this hypothesis was a good way of showing why I want to make an awareness video and how it will affect the audience.

The scenario I will be portraying will be a family gathering but the victim starts getting abused in front of the family. The reason why I chose this kind of scenario was because it would have a direct impact on families in the audience, this would mean the audience would be more affected from the awareness video. I would show the expressions of the family by using camera shots such as close-ups and even extreme close-ups. Using these techniques would help me assure that the audience would get emotionally affected from the short film. This links with the next paragraph because I discuss who in the audience would be most affected.

I want the audience to feel horrified and angry from watching the awareness video. In the production I show the women being beaten, this part will make the audience feel the most in the whole video. Further more the main audience that would get most affected would be women and possibly children. The techniques I would use in this scene would be classical non-digetic music, also digetic sounds of punches and blurred voices. Carrying on with this would be effective to use because it will let me meet my aim which is making the audience get emotionally distressed, plus it will make the audience think about the short film for longer because they are definitive moments with the production. This links with the paragraph when I speak about my ultimate aim, which includes what feeling I want from audience and why.

I am using a female as the victim and male as the abuser because statistically this is the most common combination of genders in an abusive relationship, I can show that this is true by this charity called 'lwa', it says that 1 in 4 women will get abused in their lifetime, compared to 1 in 6 men getting abused. Furthermore the reason why I used a female and male was so it would make the scenario seem more realistic and relatable, plus I want the setting to be based in South London in a ordinary home to add to the realistic theme. This links with the last paragraph by the way using this method with make the short film more effective towards the audience which will help me complete my aim.

W-Fowler, Anicca. "Domestic Abuse Statistics | Lwa.Org.Uk". Lwa.org.uk. N.p., 2016. Web. 14 June 2016.

When going through this unit I wanted ask my self what is my target audience, but I asked random people all different ages to give me questions that relate to my target audience. An example of a question I was given was "What is the ABC1 of my audience?" the answer I gave was "the target audience I am making this short film for are all the classes from A-E this is because I feel like the issue is nation wide and happens in every class of people so that why I have targeted at the whole nation." Me targeting the whole nation will allow me to advertise my short film more often, plus popularity of the production will increase. This would help my achieve my aim because I can spread awareness faster and to a broader audience.

Another question I was asked was "How will customers find out about the short film you are distributing?" I said that the adverts I would use to gain my audience would be posters and adverts to promote my short film that would be displayed on maybe TV, Radio and mainly social media (e.g. Twitter, YouTube etc.) I feel like these are good methods of distributing my product because they are highly populated areas for media and I can release my short film to a larger amount of people. This links with the previous paragraph by the way I talk about the question I was given, plus I continue talking about my audience.

Through this process I created a story board of my short;
This is the part where the family are sitting down watching TV.
This is the part when the victim gets beaten up by the abuser.

The characters within my short film is Amy the victim also the female, Jason the abuser and male in the relationship, Maggie the mother of the victim and lastly Billy the grandson of Maggie and the nephew of Amy. Amy suits the role because she is shy and not confident which makes her more vulnerable to domestic abuse, this is because she cant defend her self well which is stereotypical for the victims. Jason fits the role because he is confident and feels powerful so that's makes him stereotypically more likely to abuse. Maggie fits in as well by the way she is sweet but you can tell she is not shy to a bit of anger. The characters play their role well because they show the stereotypical victim and abuser which makes the audience understand the situation much better, Maggie is the most interesting character because you find out what she does later which is unexpected.

Amy wants love and protection from Jason but all he does is put her in more danger and he is the main danger for her. On the other hand Jason wants her to give him attention and strength to make him feel better about himself and show how powerful he is. We see the point where both victim and abuser clash when the mother of the victim watches the abuse happen, but then she starts using violence on him, so that you can see how the abuser feels after getting the same treatment. Jason will feel depressed because he has lost his power over Amy and also got beat up by a women which will hurt his ego. This would have an impact on the audience because they would be able to see how an abuser acts and feels and how it can be taken away from them. This links with the last paragraph because I am analyising and talking about the character with the short film.

The main majority of my audience watching the short film would feel like the women would never get help and no one can defend them. The abusers will always be an abuser and will never stop, but this shows that an abuser’s power can be taken away by stopping them or if the same treatment is used on them. The audience will also need to know that the victims in domestic violence need help and cant always be able to reach out themselves, the abusers can be stopped if you put an end to domestic violence.

The short film will be planned out by making it a linear story. This means that the short film will be in order, for example (they wake up -- eating breakfast -- watching TV). The important information gets displayed at the start and end of the short film this will be there because it will help tell the story and how many people become victims of domestic violence last year. The climatic sequence will go in the middle part of the short film and it will be the point when the abuser (Jason) gets angry then starts beating the victim (Amy). The story doesn't end on a cliff hanger and it shows how the victim is after the this event. Me using this linear story method means that the audience will be able to understand and get more impacted by the short film, this would help me achieve my overall aim of impacting the audience to try and make a difference. This connects to the other paragraphs by the way I am using methods just to achieve my aim.

In the short film there will be a lot of shots that show the whole setting for example when they are in the living room the camera has the whole room is in the shot. At the start of the film it will be all light when the family approaches the hose so that it looks happy and friendly to the audience and it will also show the emotions of the victims when seeing her family. As the story goes on the lighting starts to drop and go darker so that the audience can tell that it is getting dark within the story line. The story line comes to its climax when the abuse starts, the camera zooms in on the abuse then onto the mother so that you can see her emotions. I feel like this will make the short film more dramatic and make the audience think more which keeps their mind on the story. This links with me using methods to make the short film more emotional and real.

The resolution of my short film will be the moving on of the victim by moving away from the area and getting an apartment,  also finding someone who she likes and the abuser going to prison with for years because of the incident. The final words will be ‘This was only on case of domestic violence but this one ended fine’(words disappear) ‘But there are thousands of cases where the victim is not helped and is stuck where they are’

The budget I will be working is little to no budget, but an ideal budget would be £6,000. With this budget I must fund different departments within the production. Example of some of the departments are, cast and crew, catering, location, camera and lights. Cast and crew is the departments that recruits and casts the actors and production members. Catering isn't the most crucial department but for the cast and crew it good for them to have a break with food and drinks provided. Location is very important because this is where you will film, so using money to use a location can make the production more thought of. Camera and lights is apart of the equipment department this is crucial to the production because equipment is needed for filming.

Any problems that could would be that days when filming the weather could be bad and not planned or if casting crew are ill or something else has happened to them. If the audience don’t like the short film and don’t take it on board which would be a waste or the audience don’t like the acting so they don’t feel for the short film. Ways of keeping the staff to keep on time so that there is no delay when filming , also getting the filming equipment to the right destination at the right time so there is no delay as well.

In the research I have found I have grouped together all the information I have gathered and have made a summary to show an over view of the issue and what the research has showed me. The research I collected help me understand the people who are involved in domestic violence. The victims who are involved in domestic violence are normally female, they are stereotypically very unconfident and are very shy people. Victims are normally the stereotypical housewife in a relationship. The abuser is normally male shown by statistics, they are very confident and feels like he is too powerful for anyone. In most cases had a bad childhood, for example their mother or father being abused while he was growing up, which influenced him to do the same. Domestic violence is when someone is physically abused at their home or another household. This type of abuse happens at homes across the nation because it happens in so many different types of classes of people. Domestic violence happens because the male feels like he must always be in control so to show his power and dominance he uses violence to scare the female into doing what he says.

Revisions

Proof reading
Spelling
I have corrected my spelling by adding in a 'n' and 'd' to make it to 'planned'. By doing this it shows that i know how to correct my spelling, this will also help me when creating the rest of the presentation.

Punctuation
I corrected my work when i changed a sentence which was too long by placing a semi-colon to show that there is two sentence in one. This shows that i know different punctuation and how to use it in the right areas.
Grammar

I checked my grammar on my work and i found this mistake which is the one in red. The reason why this is wrong is because its not formal when in a presentation. this really helped me find more mistakes just like this which makes the presentation more professional.

Clarity of expression
When going through my presentation I found a mistake which is a good example of 'clarity of expression' which means that it is not clear or understandable. As you can see i accidentally put 'it' instead of 'she' which can be bad when presenting because it wont be clear who you are talking about. this has help me look out for mistakes just like this one.

Structure of content

When i was making the slides for my presentation I accidentally put too many images on one slide, also one of the images was too large and covered some of the text which makes it look scruffy and unable to read.

2.Electronic checks

Spelling

When doing electronic spelling checks i found this mistake, i corrected this by right clicking the word and selecting the correct spelling.

Punctuation

When i was going through my presentation looking for mistakes i found this one above. I changed the full stop to a question mark because i was asking a question.

Grammar

Here i found another mistake which was easy to fix because if i right click on the mistake i can 'delete the repeated word' which is an easy tool to use.

Thesaurus

I used the thesaurus to find a better word for 'sad' and i did which was 'depressed', which makes the sentence more powerful.

Linguistic register

The way the short film will be planned out will be by making it a linear story line which means that it will be in order for example(they wake up-eating breakfast-watching TV). The important information gets displayed at the start and end of the short film and it will be what is the story about and how many people become victims of domestic violence each year.
I think this is good way of planning the short film and I think that this is the best way. In my opinion I think this is the best and efficient way of doing the short film.

             - Doesn't make sense, needs a comma.
             - The sentence is too long it needs a comma or full stop to break it up, parts of sentence don't make sense.
             - This is not formal.
             - Doesn't make sense.
             - This piece of text is too conversational which is not appropriate when in a presentation, also doesn't make sense. this piece of text is not needed in your presenta
